Heading out of Reykjavik, the Golden Circle route comprises three of Iceland’s most impressive highlights. And, you’ll travel in style, being met at your hotel by an oversized Superjeep – a souped-up 4WD – before turning out well beyond the city limits.
You’ll begin with Thingvellir National Park’s, the site of the world’s first parliament and where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly pulling apart. The result? An impossibly cragged rift valley. It’s then on to the world’s original geyser and its next-door counterpart, Strokkur, which erupts almost every five minutes. You’ll complete the Golden Circle with Gullfoss – a giant waterfall that many consider to be the country’s most impressive. Lastly, there’s a chance to test your Superjeep’s capabilities with a climb up to the highlands of Iceland’s second-tallest icecap, where you’ll take in the monumental Langjökull Glacier. Here, you’ll have the option of trying out snowmobiling, even in summer! You’ll then be brought back to your accommodation, pausing at the small but perfectly formed Faxi Waterfall.
