ICEHOTEL is a true Scandinavian icon, a living work of art built anew each year using ice hewn from Swedish Lapland's remote Torne river. And, with each new iteration, its halls, corridors, rooms and suites are embellished with ever more fantastical themes and ever more impressive carvings. As such, we fully expect the latest version to be the most spectacular yet, and this winter-opening break offers you the chance to see it all before anyone else. You’ll fly out to Kiruna on the 13th December, joining a small group of privileged guests for the official opening ceremony and a tour the rooms and suites created by some of the world’s most talented ice artists. It’s all followed by a party at the hotel’s ICEBAR. What’s more, during your stay you’ll enjoy a Making of the ICEHOTEL tour – a behind-the-scenes look at the hotel’s unique construction.

Please note, opening dates and programme for 2020/21 are yet to be finalised. For other winter dates, see our Classic ICEHOTEL Break.

Day by day itinerary

  • Days 1-2 » ICEHOTEL & optional excursions

Fly from the UK to Kiruna and transfer to the ICEHOTEL for the first of two nights in the hotel’s cosy warm accommodation. With two days free before the official opening, you’ll have ample time to experience some of ICEHOTEL’s winter excursions. And there’s much to choose from, with everything from snowmobiling and husky safaris to ice-carving classes, cross-country skiing trips and even wilderness survival adventures. We’ve also included a Making of the ICEHOTEL tour, taking you behind the scenes to find out more about the hotel’s annual construction.

    Stay: ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 3 » ICEHOTEL opening ceremony

After a final day of optional excursions, you’ll head down to the opening ceremony followed by a first look at the beautifully carved rooms, suites and spaces that make ICEHOTEL such a special place to stay. Then, head to the ICEBAR for an opening-night party, enjoying drinks served in glasses made of ice, of course. And, with luck, the whole evening might just be set against a backdrop of the Northern Lights, dancing in the night skies overhead. You’ll then spend your final night in an ice room, with Arctic sleeping bags and reindeer hides keeping you snug in temperatures of -5ºC.

    Stay: ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 4 » Departure

Wake to a warm glass of lingonberry juice, a buffet breakfast and a sauna before your transfer back to Kiruna for your flight home.
