Days 2-3 » Camp Ripan
A Forest Tour by dogsled tour is included in your stay. This is the perfect way to experience the beautiful winter wonderland surrounding Camp Ripan. Sitting on a big sled pulled by a team of excitable yet friendly Alaskan Huskies the trail you’ll follow winds its way through pine and birch forest down to the famous Torne River. Half way through the tour you stop at a traditional Sami-style tipi (Lavvo) for a fresh brewed coffee and a popular Swedish snack. If luck is on your side, you may see reindeer on the trail or even spot a moose! This tour includes time to meet and pet the dogs if you wish to do so.
Your final day at Camp Ripan begins with a hearty breakfast followed by your choice of activity. Lying in the foothills of dramatic mountain ranges, the more moderate gradients of the camp’s surrounds make for superb Nordic skiing country, which is trained on by professionals. Alpine skiers will find a sheer slope at nearby Luossavaara, while snowshoes are available if you wish to hike the forests at a more sedate pace. Aside from skiing, you have the chance to saddle up an Icelandic horse, a stocky breed well adapted to the harsh environment, and head out for a ride in the snow. You might even spot the majestic moose foraging in its natural habitat.
On return to the Camp, we have included a visit to the Aurora Spa, a beautiful retreat with a sauna and a range of natural Arctic medicinal treatments. Included in your visit is the seven step Stavan Ritual. You can also choose between the pleasures of the outdoor hot tub or the heated indoor pool – though the tub is by far the better place from which to scan the skies.
