This superb five-day tailor-made holiday combines a number of hiking trails over a variety of terrains, making the most of the region's incredible mountain and coastal scenery. You'll stay at the gorgeous Lyngen Lodge, a luxury design lodge surrounded by both the Lyngen Alps and Kåfjord, where you'll enjoy a wealth of activities, unrivalled mountain views and delicious regional cuisine.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Tromsø

Arrive in the northern city of Tromsø inside the Arctic Circle and make your way to your city centre hotel where you'll spend your first night. The midnight sun shines in Tromsø from mid-May until the end of July so you'll have plenty of daylight to explore Norway's Arctic capital. If you arrive early enough, a trip to the Polar Museum to learn about life in the Arctic is highly recommended, and in the evening, head out to one of Tromso's superb restaurants such as Fiskekompaniet or Emma's Dream Kitchen, both of which specialise in local dishes.

    Stay: Scandic Ishavshotel, Tromso

  • Day 2 » Lyngen Alps

After breakfast you'll be collected at your hotel and driven to Lyngen Lodge where you'll spend the next three nights. Stylish Lyngen Lodge offers the perfect combination of relaxation and mountain and fjord-based activities that really allow you to make the most of your time in the Lyngen Alps. From when the midnight sun arrives in mid-May to when it retreats again at the end of July, the region comes to life as flowers bloom, migrating birds make their nests, the rivers fill with fish and giant waterfalls cascade towards the nearby ocean as the winter snow begins to melt from the surrounding mountains. After checking into the lodge, spend the rest of your first day at leisure before enjoying a sumptuous evening meal around a long table with your fellow guests.

    Stay: Lyngen Lodge, Norway

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 3 » Reisa River Valley Hike

Today you'll enjoy a full day hike in the Reisa River National Park. Specially designed riverboats will take you 35 kilometres upstream, deep into the spectacular Reisa Canyon. Along the way you'll pass through dense forests and past a series of waterfalls, hopefully spotting some of the local river wildlife along the way. Once you reach the canyon you'll leave your boat and enjoy a short hike to the Mollisfossen Waterfall, Northern Norway's highest waterfall that cascades 275 metres over a sheer cliff into the river below. During your visit to the waterfall, lunch will be cooked on an open fire and served as you admire the view. Return to Lyngen Lodge in the afternoon in time for dinner.

    Stay: Lyngen Lodge, Norway

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 4 » Morning hike and optional excursion

Leaving the fjord scenery behind, head to the Northern Europe's deepest canyon, Kafjord, where you'll have the chance to walk across an airy pedestrian bridge at the canyons deepest part. Surprisingly, at 150 metres deep, the canyon only spans a couple metres wide and offers dramatic views over the edge into the canyon and the beautiful waterfall the flow's over its edge. In the afternoon you'll have the choice of optional activities including deep sea fishing, sea kayaking, a sea safari, mountain hiking, glacier trekking or horse riding. Spend your final evening enjoying another wonderful dinner at the lodge and swapping stories with your fellow guests.

    Stay: Lyngen Lodge, Norway

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 5 » Departure

After breakfast you'll transfer back to Tromsø airport for your flight home via Oslo.
