After breakfast, you’ve got the whole day free to explore the Danish capital. The centre is fairly compact, so you can easily make your way around on foot, or you may prefer to rent a bike and cycle as the locals do. Climb the Round Tower for views overlooking the city, stroll along the canals and charming streets of Christianshavn, or take a step back in time at the beautifully preserved, 17-century Kastellet fortress. Allow ample time for coffee and pastry stops at cosy cafes along the way. Day 6 » Olden, Norway
Sail along Norway’s sixth longest fjord, Nordfjord, taking in the magnificent scenery before arriving in the tiny village of Olden at the mouth of the Oldeelva River. This is an ideal starting point for a whole host of optional excursions, including the opportunity to see Europe’s largest glacier, Jostedalsbreen, on a breathtaking helicopter ride. Alternatively, you could hike or take a troll car tour to Briksdal Glacier, go kayaking in the fjord, visit a rural farm for lunch, or take the Loen Skylift to the summit of Mount Hoven for awe-inspiring views overlooking the Nordfjord.

Day 7 » Åndalsnes, Norway
Expect plenty more idyllic scenery today as you arrive in Åndalsnes on the southern shore of the Romsdalsfjord. Once renowned as a major salmon fishing hub, today the town is regarded as the capital of Norwegian mountaineering, with an abundance of fantastic hiking routes on its doorstep. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the Troll Road, one of Norway’s steepest and windiest mountain passes, and ride the Romsdalen Gondola for a scenic hike on Nesaksla mountain.

Day 8 » Trondheim, Norway
Today, you’ll arrive in Trondheim, Norway’s third largest city and the former Viking capital. Take a gentle stroll through the historic, cobbled lanes of the Bakklandet neighbourhood, admire the colourful wharfs that adorn the banks of the Nidelva River, and cross the famous Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro). Other must-see landmarks include the Gothic-style Nidaros Cathedral and the hilltop Kristiansten Fortress, built in the aftermath of the great fire in 1681 to protect the city from attacks from the east. Choose between a guided walk or a guided drive, or feel free to explore independently at your own pace.

Day 9 » Ålesund, Norway
Contrary to the traditional timber buildings you’ll find in many Norwegian towns and cities, Ålesund is renowned for its elegant, pastel-hued Art Nouveau architecture, which emerged in the aftermath of the fire of 1904. Paired with the nearby mountains and fjords, it’s undoubtedly one of Norway’s most photogenic cities. Explore the cobbled streets on a guided city walk, or join a guided drive taking you between the must-see sights. There’s also the option of climbing Mount Aksla for the best view overlooking the city, or you could join an excursion to the nearby islands of Giske and Godoy. Some of Norway’s finest cod is sourced from the waters around Ålesund, so be sure to seek some out if you fancy dining in a local restaurant.

Day 10 » Disembark the Silver Dawn in Bergen
After an early breakfast, you’ll dock in Bergen where a transfer will take you to your centrally-located hotel, the Opus XVI. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Hanseatic wharf, Bryggen, comprising a row of colourful wooden buildings separated by narrow alleyways that once housed the offices, storehouses and homes of merchants. Now, Bryggen houses restaurants, cafes, handicraft stores and art galleries. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

Day 11 » Explore Bergen
Bergen may be Norway’s second largest city, but the main downtown area is compact and easily walkable. Along with Bryggen, no trip here is complete without taking the Floibanen funicular – or making the hike – up Mount Floyen for fabulous views overlooking Bergen and the fjords beyond. You might also be tempted to check out the famous Bergen Fish Market, Bergen Aquarium or the medieval Bergenhus Fortress, which dates back to the 13th century. As the city is surrounded by mountains and fjords, there are plenty of opportunities for hikes and day cruises if you’re interested in seeing more of the wider region’s natural beauty.
