Day 1 » UK/Blue Lagoon
Flying out to Iceland, you’ll be met at the airport by a private driver who’ll see you the short distance to your ultra-luxury accommodation. Here, in your minimalist-chic suite, you’ll settle into views of the Blue Lagoon or its lava-field surrounds from your private terrace – best paired with the complimentary fine wine and beer from your minibar. Of course, you’ll also have full use of the Blue Lagoon and the Retreat’s exclusive spa. This evening, we highly recommend dining at the superb Moss Restaurant, where Michelin-recommended food is served to spectacular views over the otherworldly landscape. Travelling over winter? Keep your eyes peeled for the Northern Lights.

Day 2 » The Retreat at the Blue Lagoon
After an indulgent breakfast, you might want to begin with a complimentary yoga session or hike among the lagoon’s lunar surrounds. However, today is all about the main attraction. You’ll get your introductions with the Blue Lagoon Ritual, a skincare routine informed by minerals sourced at the lagoon. Then, you’ll want to spend some time in the mist-clad geothermal waters, enjoying privileged access to the Retreat’s exclusive lagoon. It’s the chance for some proper seclusion, complete with its own lava canyons and corridors. The exclusivity doesn’t end there, however, with the Retreat’s very own spa, home to everything from steam caves to gentle lava-spring showers. There’s also the option of enjoying a beauty treatment or in-water massage.

It’s the chance to discover some of Iceland’s lesser-known wonders, from hot springs and lava springs to bird cliffs and bubbling mud pools. Particular highlights include the brilliant blue of Lake Kleifarvatn, the green hot springs of Krísuvík and the iconic loneliness of Reykjanesviti Lighthouse. There’s even a bridge linking two tectonic plates. It all finishes in Reykjavik, where you’ll stay in its most luxurious hotel. Expect panoramic city views and spa treatments, all wrapped up in an Art Deco landmark. The Icelandic capital’s colourful history and glass-and-steel modernity is all on its doorstep.

Then, you’ll witness the geyser that all others are named after, along with one whose explosive eruptions are so regular, you can almost set your watch by them. It all ends in Thingvellir National Park – a great rift valley that houses the intriguing archaeological remains of the world’s first parliament. It’s all brought to life by your expert guide, who’ll also offer the option of going snowmobiling on top of a glacier before you return for a final night in Reykjavik.
