This is your chance to get right inside one of the largest volcanoes in Iceland, where the Apollo 11 astronauts were trained by NASA. You’ll be met at your hotel bright and early before driving out along rough gravel roads, winding slowly between dramatic lava fields and black-sand deserts. It’s the Icelandic highlands at their lunar best. Along the way, you’ll also pause at barren gullies and oasis springs, once the home of the Icelandic outlaws exiled in the middle ages. It all culminates with a short hike into Askja, taking in its otherworldly crater ridges and the eerie bright blue of its mineral lake – Iceland’s deepest. You’ll then be brought back to your hotel after the day’s adventures.
