If you’re looking for an ultra high end, luxurious place to stay in Helsinki, The Hotel Maria is just the ticket. You’ll find it in the peaceful Kruununhaka neighbourhood, within easy walking distance of must-see landmarks including Helsinki Cathedral, Senate Square, the Old Market Hall and the Allas Sea Pool swimming and sauna complex. From its elegant exterior to its stylish communal spaces, the hotel exudes glamour and sophistication throughout, achieving a fine balance between historical grandeur and innovative, contemporary Nordic design. With fabulous on-site dining options, a state-of-the-art spa and beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites, this is a hotel that strives to go above and beyond to exceed even the loftiest of expectations. As such, you can be assured of a truly delightful stay that delivers on every front; comfort, convenience, relaxation, and more than just a little indulgence.

Eat

Dining at The Hotel Maria is a treat. The signature restaurant, Lilja, delivers an original take on authentic, gourmet Finnish cuisine, infused with classic French influences, with both à la carte and set menus to choose from alongside an eclectic list of fine wines to suit every taste. Breakfast is a similarly lavish affair, with an extensive buffet and à la carte dishes cooked to order. There’s also the Garden Terrace for exquisite, brasserie-style plates, served in a cosy, glass-panelled winter garden or in the outdoor courtyard, depending on the time of year. For top notch cocktails, champagne and caviar, complemented by live piano music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, head over to the Bar Maria, whose gleaming white decor is inspired by the colours of icy Nordic winters.

Sleep

Each of the hotel’s 117 guest rooms is uniquely designed, with features ranging from dimmable lighting and ornate chandeliers to spacious, spa-style bathrooms with walk-in showers and complimentary premium toiletries. If you’re after a little extra space, consider upgrading to a deluxe or premier deluxe room. Or, you may be tempted by one of the suites, which come with cosy lounge areas, fireplaces, designer bath tubs and in-suite entertainment systems, controlled via a smart tablet. Some even have their own private sauna or steam room. The Premier Loft Suite, located on the fourth floor of the west building, is a particular standout, with its exposed timber beams, lofted ceilings and antique brickwork displaying the building’s original character.

Do

After a day spent exploring the sights of Helsinki, the Maria Spa is the perfect place to unwind. Centered around a glass-roofed atrium with an elegant fountain and day beds, it features warm and cold plunge pools, a sauna and a steam room. The Wellness Concierge is also on-hand should you be tempted to book a rejuvenating massage, skin treatment or facial, tailored to your individual requirements.
