Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Fly to Kajaani

    Your trip begins with a flight to to Kajaani via the Finnish capital Helsinki. Located in the remote Arctic Lakeland region of central Finland, you'll arrive in an untouched, wild area of pristine snow-covered taiga forest and frozen lakes. Your transfer will be waiting to take you to Ukkohalla Resort, a hidden gem set amidst miles of untouched Arctic nature. You'll check into your Sky Cabin Glass Suite, which are idyllically situated on a hill overlooking the valley and come complete with a motorised bed, a small kitchen and dining facilities. Best of all, though, are the floor-to-ceiling glass walls, which afford magnificent views of the surrounding nature and, with luck, the magical Northern Lights. This evening, you'll have your first taste of the local cuisine as you dine at restaurant Hallan Karhu.

    The Sky Cabin Glass Suites are located on the top of the hill which affords a 360 degree view of the surrounding area. The restaurant and Sauna World & Spa are a four-minute drive away at the bottom of the ski lifts. Complimentary transfers are on request and easily arranged with reception. Alternatively, if you do ski, you can ski in/out (lift closes at 7pm)

  • Day 2 » Reindeer Farm visit & Sauna World

    Kickstart your day with a Finnish breakfast before visiting a reindeer farm this morning. You'll get a sneak peek at the daily life of these highly adapted animals as well as the lives of the reindeer herders themselves, who'll share stories about life on the farm. You can also show your skills with a traditional lasso and take photos with the reindeer. Subject to weather conditions, it may be possible to have a short sled ride - supplement applies and to be paid at the farm.

    Your afternoon is at leisure today. Speak with our specialists if you wish to book an afternoon excursion or simply relax and enjoy the views from your cabin. We recommend trying out the nine different saunas available in the resort, as well an indoor pool and outdoor hot tub. Dinner is included this evening at the restaurant, before you make your way back to your cabin for a chance to spot the dancing aurora from your cosy bed.

  • Day 3 » Husky sledding

    Today will be spent enjoy the vast outdoors. First, you'll enjoy a thrilling husky safari as you travel across the snowy forest trails of Arctic Lakeland. Your experienced guides will teach you the basics of mushing and you'll be given the chance to try it for yourself. Children can enjoy the ride in a traditional, handmade two-person sled. During the safari, there will be breaks to allow drivers and passengers to take it in turns, as well as giving you the opportunity to take photos of the stunning winter wonderland which surrounds you. After the safari, your guide will tell you more about the lives of their dogs and how they train them.

    Returning to the resort, you'll have the chance to opt for more adventure, with everything from snowshoeing to fat biking and skiing. Dinner is included at the restaurant this evening.

  • Day 4 » Skiing

    After another delicious breakfast to start the day, you'll take advantage of your included day ski pass. The on-site ski resort has 15 slopes and 3 snow parks, offering endless fun on skis and snowboards, suitable for beginners or intermediates alike. If you're craving a more relaxing afternoon, the resort's spa has several saunas including a smoke sauna as well as pools with massage equipment. If you're feeling especially brave, you can even opt to take a dip in Lake Syväjärvi! 

    Following dinner, we recommend spending your final evening seeking out the Northern Lights. We can organise an evening snowshoeing excursion into the wild, allowing you a chance to spot the elusive aurora away from the light pollution.

  • Day 5 » Return to the UK

    After a final breakfast, transfer to airport in time for your return flight home.
