Day 1 » Copenhagen
This Christmas treat begins with an easy hop across the North Sea, touching down in the wintry Danish capital before a transfer to your hotel in the historic Nyhavn district, where pastel painted town houses and warehouses make a pretty picture alongside the mingled masts of yachts docked on the quayside. Spend the remainder of the day enjoying this quaint quarter.
Stay: 71 Nyhavn, Copenhagen

Days 2-3 » Copenhagen
Though a Christmas theme runs through this trip, it’s still a city break and you have time to enjoy all Copenhagen has to offer. The home of Hans Christian Andersen pays homage to the great storyteller with a statue in the harbour of the Little Mermaid, while hip visitors will want to hang out in the alternative neighbourhood of Christiania. A selection of typical Danish smørrebrød (open rye sandwiches) can be enjoyed anywhere – a local must-taste.
The best Christmas markets are to be found at Nyhavn, Christiania and Tivoli Gardens, where the aromas of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg will pull you in for a session of beautiful, guilt free indulgence that Christmas positively demands. Pastries, cakes, biscuits and apple dumplings are piled up prettily and enticingly on stalls, enjoyed best with a steaming cup of gløgg, the local variant of mulled wine. The markets are a great place to do your Christmas shopping, and the array of wooden toys, ornaments and other goods available never ceases to surprise and enchant.
