Perfectly located just a short walk from Bergen’s Hanseatic wharf and waterfront, the Thon Bristol Bergen is the perfect base from which to explore this charming city. From the hotel, many of the city’s main attractions are equidistant, including the busy and popular fish market, the National Stage and the glorious gardens of Festplassen, giving the Thon the feeling of being at the very centre of everything Bergen has to offer.
Eat
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served at the onsite Egon restaurant, a national chain serving gastropub-style fare, from an excellent Club Sandwich to a range of pizzas, hamburgers and steaks, reflecting the usual influences from American cuisine, alongside some Norwegian favourites.
Sleep
The Bristol Bergen, as with the other Thon hotels around Norway, provides trademark unfussy and comfortable rooms. They have a pared down style, with polished wooden floors and pale hues, with the Superior rooms offering a more spacious feel. En suites are efficient rather than indulgent, but the overall experience is a relaxed one.
Do
Given the hotel’s central location, the town of Bergen is your oyster, and there are plenty of exciting places to explore nearby. Start with a stroll to Bryggen, a historic wharf that began life when the city was an important Hanseatic trading port. Take a look at the colourful wooden warehouses along the quay before stopping in to the Hanseatic Museum to learn the history of the quarter. Top it all off with a ride up the Floibanen funicular up for a view over the city and the surrounding fjords.
