Eat
Dining at the Eiliert Smith is a particular highlight. Its gourmet restaurant, RE-NAA, is the first outside of Oslo to achieve a Michelin star in Norway, awarded for its focus on natural and local produce. Reservations are essential. Expect everything from forest-foraged delights to the best fjord catches, all showcased over almost two-dozen courses. The sommelier-chosen wine pairings are equally impressive. For something more casual, Stavanger’s excellent café and restaurant scene are on the hotel’s doorstep.
Sleep
Thanks to the building’s architect-led sensibilities, each room at the Eilert Smith is delightfully individual. However, they do share a love of minimalist design, which plays out over timber furnishing, rainfall showers and carefully chosen artwork. The amenities are equally impressive, ranging from complimentary minibars to Nespresso machines and heated floors. In turn, suite upgrades mix in extra space and views of the city or fjord. However, whatever you choose, a superlative breakfast is delivered to your room from Renaa Xpress.
Do
Alongside Michelin-starred indulgence in the restaurant, the Eilert Smith is ideally poised to take in all of Stavanger’s many delights. After beginning your day with a four-course boxed breakfast and an artisanal coffee in your room, head out to wander its winding streets to take in its art galleries, gorgeous waterside setting and famous cathedral. The nearby fjords are a further unmissable highlight, with boat rides and hikes bringing you to such iconic landmarks as Preikestolen Rock – a dramatic cliff towering over Lysefjord. Then, returning to your room, you’ll be able to rest up with your minibar’s complimentary soft drinks, wines and beers.
