So much more than just a city break, this stay in Iceland's cosmopolitan capital, Reykjavik, includes two unforgettable excursions. The first, a Superjeep tour at night sees you chase the Northern Lights in locations far off the beaten track. Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK/Reykjavik

Flying out to Keflavik, an shuttle bus transfer will see you from the airport to your accommodation in downtown Reykjavik. Housed in 18th-century buildings on one of the city’s oldest streets, it’s perfectly positioned to explore. After taking in Reykjavik’s colourful historic core, be sure to turn your attention to its innovative present. The Icelandic capital’s creative scene plays out over lively bars, superb dining experiences and a full suite of modernist architecture. The spectacularly staggered Hallgrímskirkja church is a special highlight.

    Stay: Hotel Reykjavík Centrum, Iceland

  • Day 2 » Sky Lagoon & Northern Lights by Superjeep

Today, we have included transfers and entry to the Sky Lagoon, an ultra-sleek geothermal spa on the outskirts of Reykjavik. With views overlooking the sea, it's a stunning spot for a soothing soak, surrounded by volcanic rock walls.

Then, in the evening, enjoy a real trip highlight as you join a Superjeep tour in search of the Northern Lights. Heading off road to the remotest spots, far from any artificial light, you’ll have the best chance to see the aurora in all its technicolour glory. Your guide will help take pictures to capture the spectacle should the Northern Lights make an appearance, which you'll be able to download after the tour.

Please note, it is also possible to visit the Blue Lagoon, however entry may be restricted at short notice due to the volcanic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula. There are other alternatives as well as the Sky Lagoon, such as the Hvammsvik Hot Springs, which we can also arrange.

    Stay: Hotel Reykjavík Centrum, Iceland

  • Day 3 » Day at leisure

Today is yours to spend at leisure. Perhaps head out on the famous Golden Circle route, taking in Thingvellir National Park, beautiful Gullfoss waterfall and Strokkur, a geyser whose clockwork-regular outbursts reach up to 20 metres high. And, if you’re feeling adventurous, there’s even the chance to ride a snowmobile on a glacier. Or, you might prefer to spend a little more time exploring Reykjavik itself.

Alternatively, take the chance to head out onto the frigid Atlantic swells to spot humpbacks, minke whales and pods of playful dolphins, or head south to discover black-sand beaches and glacial lagoons, or strap on a pair of crampons for a thrilling ice caving adventure.
