Idyllically perched on the shores of a frozen lake, this new kid on the Nordic block brings the glass-igloo concept to the remote north-western tip of Finnish Lapland. It’s a truly spectacular setting of frozen forests and snow-dusted fells, home to large herds of free-roaming reindeer. As you’d expect, among all of this beauty, there’s adventure to be had, with a full range of optional excursions that make the most of the host Vasara family’s rich Sami heritage – expect spellbinding days spent ice fishing and experiencing life in the company of local herders. What's more, it's less than four hours from Tromso, making this the perfect glass-igloo combination with a stay in Norway's Northern Lights capital.

Eat

Winter stays include half-board, with hearty breakfasts – as wholesome as you need for long days in the Arctic – and equally sustaining dinners, all inspired by the region’s bountiful ingredients. Fish caught from the lake is an obvious highlight, and reindeer features heavily, often smoked and paired with berries from the nearby forests.

Sleep

Despite the fine setting, fabulous food and wealth of activities, it’s perhaps the accommodation here that really steals the show. Four spacious and stylish glass-domed cabins, each with en suite shower room and WC, enjoy superb daytime views across the valley surrounds. But, it’s at night when these cabins really shine as, with conditions permitting, you lay back in bed and enjoy your very own, private display of the magical Northern Lights.

Do

As mentioned, Reindeer Ranch offers its guests an excellent range of activities, from reindeer herder experiences to full days of ice fishing, complete with campfire lunch. But that’s not all/ There’s also the chance to try your hand at snowmobiling and fatbiking, or to strap on a pair of snowshoes to explore hidden forest trails. And, back at base, there’s the sheer fun of the taboggan run and Finnish sleigh-go-round – a sort of carousel on ice. Lastly, don’t miss the chance to relax in the wood-fired sauna or outdoor hot tub, both delightfully relaxing ways to end your days in the great outdoors.
