All Northern Lights enthusiasts should have their sights set on Finland's far north and this four-day trip gives you every opportunity to view the celestial spectacle. Situated miles away from any possible source of light pollution, high up in the Arctic at just the right latitude, Nellim is one of the best spots from which to see the Northern Lights. In between sky gazing, dogsledding and other Lapland adventures, all the traditional delights of an old-fashioned log cabin holiday await!

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Arrive in Finnish Lapland

Fly first to Helsinki, and connect with a flight up into Finnish Lapland and the town of Ivalo. You’ll then be transferred to your cosy lodge at the Nellim Wilderness Hotel, and have time to settle in before you enjoy an evening trying to spot the Northern Lights!

  • Day 2 » Husky sledding & Northern Lights hunting

Today is the day to practice your dogsledding skills, as you’ll spend three hours mushing across Lake Inari – all frozen over into icy splendour. After enjoying the thrills of this timeless mode of transport, sampling the views and the excitement of controlling the pack, head back to the hotel for lunch and a relaxing afternoon – activities resume with an Aurora Workshop (teaching you about the science behind the Northern Lights), dinner and then when darkness falls, head out into the wilderness on a guided snowshoeing expedition. With luck, the Northern Lights will be active and you'll be treated to a magical show.

  • Day 3 » Snowmobiling safari

Swap the dogs for an engine instead – the morning’s activities involve a guided snowmobile safari, taking you far out into the wilderness and showcasing the beauty of the winter landscape and its inhabitants. A wilderness lunch taken by an open campfire is also included.

Later this evening, you’ll also be able to catch a snowmobile sleigh to another secluded camp where you’ll have a fantastic final chance to view the aurora.
