Arctic Retreat

Sweden

Snowy cabin in the woods at Arctic Retreat in Sweden

There are just three guest cabins here, tucked away in the wilds of Swedish Lapland. Arctic Retreat's other three cabins comprise a sauna, dining room and kitchen – so there's a certain sense of privacy and intimacy to your stay here. Each cabin is pleasingly authentic from the outside, with contemporary updates on the interior – think rustic wood, steel staircases, and metal-framed floor-to-ceiling windows. And, all three come complete with fire pit and hot tub – it all makes for some truly romantic evenings under the stars. Our Winter adventure at Arctic Retreat itinerary offers everything from husky-sledding over frozen rivers and along enchanting forest trails, to a Northern Lights Workshop and snowmobiling adventure. Of course, you might prefer to hole up in the lodge, indulging in sauna rituals, in-room massages and delicious Lappish cuisine.

Wilderness Hotel Nangu

Finland

Log cabin interior at Wilderness Hotel Nangu

This adults-only lodge (in winter) is poised on the southern shores of Lake Inari in Finnish Lapland. Its cosy rooms are classically Scandi, with unique accents like designer lamps and matte-black antler fixtures. A separate building of Superior Rooms recreates the true log cabin experience – each has a private entrance and views across the lake, and one has a private sauna. A central blonde-timber-clad reception building also houses a newly-renovated restaurant, serving up hearty stews, salmon and other seasonal favourites. Our Arctic Escape to Wilderness Hotel Nangu itinerary pairs this romantic hotel with an aurora camp to see the Northern Lights, as well as snowmobiling, snowshoeing and sledding through the ethereal snow-laden forest.

Beana Laponia

Finland

Northern Lights over Beana Laponia cabins in Finland

In the wilds of Finnish Lapland, this luxuriously romantic lodge is an adults-only haven just 60 kilometres from the city of Rovaniemi. Its traditional lodge-style construction comprises just 11 uniquely-designed rooms, all exposed wood beams and silky faux-fur throws – but for the ultimate romantic experience, book the Laponia Junior Suite, complete with private sauna. The menus in the restaurant are inspired by the region, showcasing seasonal produce and local ingredients in modern, Scandinavian dishes. It's best followed up with warming apertifs next to the open fire, especially after a day spent mushing huskies – beana is the sámi word for dog, and head musher Aki Holck is one of Finland’s top husky-racing experts. You can do it all on our Beana Laponia luxury break.

Lyngen Experience Lodge

Norway

Northern Lights over Lyngen Experience Lodge

This romantic retreat is set in the remote Lyngen Alps, ideally located for seeking the Northern Lights. There's a cosy feel to the lodge itself, particularly in the communal areas, such as the traditional sauna, and intimate glass-windowed restaurant. The rooms are typically Scandinavian, all plush fabrics and clean, understated lines, but the highlights here are the expansive deck and outdoor hot tub, particularly when the aurora is on full display. Spend your days doing all the classic winter activities, including reindeer sledding, ice climbing and, for something a little different, whale watching – best showcased on our Whales, Huskies and Northern Lights itinerary.

L7 Luxury Lodge

Finland

L7 Luxury Lodge in Finland surrounded by snow

This cosy lodge features – as the name suggests – just seven luxurious rooms, so you'll feel like you've truly escaped the crowds. As romantic lodges go, this one has all the trimmings – including a huge stone fireplace roaring away in the central lounge. The rooms are clad in timber, with blonde-wood flooring and cosy beds layered with thick blankets. There are also lovely views of the surrounding countryside, which in the colder months resembles a quintessential winter wonderland. Our L7 Luxury Lodge Adventure includes dogsledding and snowmobiling in the Lappish wilderness, paired with long soaks in the jacuzzi and full-service dining.

Hotel Grimsborgir

Iceland

Northern Lights outside rooms at Hotel Grimsborgir in Iceland

There's a sense of elegance at Hotel Grimsborgir, and whilst not technically a lodge, its enviable location and cosy rooms are pure romance. The rooms feature four poster beds – trimmed with white drapes and luxe furs – and contemporary Scandi decor. Some are accompanied by patios and private hot tubs, perfect for spending romantic nights under the stars. Located just moments from the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park and the world-famous Golden Circle, you're poised to visit the bes the region has to offer, including the roaring falls of Gullfoss and the bubbling mud pools of Strokkur and Great Geysir. Each evening, return to candlelit dinners of Arctic char, Icelandic lobster and mountain lamb, before a glass of wine on the terrace under (with luck) the Northern Lights' ethereal glow. It's possible to catch the aurora as early as Autumn.

Loggers Lodge

Sweden

Roaring fire and bed at Loggers Lodge in Sweden

Loggers Lodge is perhaps the most romantic lodge of them all – simply because it's designed only for two. Found in the remote wilds of northern Sweden, it's the ideal honeymoon – or special occasion – retreat, hidden in the pine trees of the boreal forest. A former logging lodge, it's been converted into a cosy, luxurious cabin, with a roaring central fireplace and dining area where a private chef serves up exquisite Swedish Lappish meals. You'll spend your days meeting local Sami tribes, heading out on Nordic ski tours, and taking Northern Lights photography classes, returning to make the most of your private wood-fired sauna, relaxation room and outdoor Jacuzzi. It's also well-paired with a stay at the unique and magical Treehotel.
