» Accommodation: Superior A higher standard of accommodation with a better range and quality of facilities, often in a good location (typically 4 stars)

» Price from: £1,700 pp incl. flights

Tick two off the bucket list with a Northern Lights cruise and a stay in a snow hotel on this thrilling itinerary. After a night in Northern Lights capital Tromso you'll board your Havila ship to cruise along the north Norwegian coast aboard one of the world's most environmentally friendly vessels. Food is a highlight, too, with three restaurants that offer local flavours in 'Food Stories' that reflect their environment, including a fine-dining option. There are also several stylish lounge areas, a heated pool and Jacuzzis. What's more, your Arctic Circle location means you'll – with luck – have multiple chances to spot the Northern Lights, as well as plenty of opportunities to head out on (optional) adventures such as King Crab fishing, husky sledding and snowmobiling. Finally, anchor in to Kirkenes where you'll end your trip in style with a stay at the iconic Kirkenes Snowhotel for a night under reindeer furs in a room carved from ice.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK to Tromso

Fly to Tromso from the UK where, on arrival, you'll transfer and check in to the stylish Clarion Collection Hotel Aurora. Refuel with complimentary afternoon waffles and a light buffet supper, then why not make the most of your surrounds and book a Northern Lights hunt for this evening? Far away from any light pollution, Tromso is one of the best places in the world to spot the Northern Lights. Simply ask us to arrange a tour with an expert guide.

Stay: Clarion Collection Hotel Aurora, Tromso

    Meals: Dinner

  • Day 2 » Board Havila

After breakfast, you've got the morning to head out on an excursion to make the most of the winter landscapes, such as husky sledding or a cable car ride to the top of the Storsteinen mountain for spectacular snow-capped vistas. This afternoon you'll head to the port to board Havila, one of the most eco-friendly ships on the Norwegian coast. Havila's dedication to the environment is impressive, from a four-hour sailing capacity with zero emissions to its Jacuzzi warmed by surplus heat. Settle in to your stylishly-appointed, sea view cabin before heading to one of the three restaurants, where chefs handpick the best raw ingredients from local sources. Most impressive is fine-dining venue Hildring, serving world-class seafood in an intimate, elegant setting. Later, enjoy dinner in the Havrand restaurant as you sail past ports such as Skjervøy, a tiny island surrounded by narrow fjords home to orcas and humpbacks, and Hammerfest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just be sure to look up to witness the Northern Lights.

    Stay: Havila

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 3 » On board Havila

You've got a full day today to explore the ship and the myriad charming fishing villages surrounded by rugged cliffs and narrow fjords along the coast. Highlights include a stop at Honningsvåg for the chance to head out King Crab fishing, try your hand at ice fishing or even have breakfast at the North Cape plateau. You'll also stop at one of the most distinctive rock formations on the Norwegian coast at Kjøllefjord, reminiscent of a cathedral rising from the sea. Visit the northernmost point on the European mainland, Mehamn, before your cruise continues through the night, being sure to step out on deck to – hopefully – spot the aurora.

    Stay: Havila

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 4 » Kirkenes Snowhotel

After an early breakfast, arrive in Kirkenes where, on arrival, you'll transfer and check in to the Kirkenes Snowhotel. The much-celebrated (and photographed) Kirkenes Snowhotel is one of Scandinavia’s most iconic hotels, with themed ice rooms, saunas, and stylish new wooden Gamme huts, which feature underfloor heating as standard. You'll be given thermal clothing on arrival to keep you comfortable in your ice-carved room – or ask us for an upgrade to a Gamme Cabin. This afternoon, perhaps visit the reindeer and 150 huskies that live on the farm before an optional excursion, with everything from husky safaris and snowmobiling to Sami experiences, snow yoga and, of course, Northern Lights hunts on offer. This evening, enjoy your final dinner at the onsite restaurant for such Norwegian Arctic classics as cod, halibut and reindeer.

    Stay: Kirkenes Snowhotel, Norway

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 5 » Kirkenes to UK

After breakfast, transfer to the airport in time for your return flight to the UK. If you'd like to extend your stay in Tromso, Kirkenes or Oslo before or after your trip, simply speak to one of our consultants when enquiring.
