Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Fly to Bergen

Your holiday begins with a flight to Bergen, where you’ll hop on board a shuttle transfer for the short trip to the city centre and your harbourside hotel. Located just a stone’s throw from the city’s Hanseatic Bryggen Wharf – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – you’ll be perfectly placed to explore all that Bergen has to offer.

    Stay: Clarion Collection Havnekontoret, Bergen

  • Day 2 » Depart Bergen

With the ship not departing until the evening, you’ll have a full day to explore. Be sure to take the Floibanen Funicular for mountaintop views across the city and its surrounding peaks and fjords, wander old cobblestone streets and get a taste of local life at the bustling fish market. You’ll also want to explore the Bryggen Wharf, a window onto a time when Bergen was one of the most important cities in Northern Europe – a cornerstone of the powerful Hanseatic League. As the day draws to a close, it’s time to board to your Havila ship to begin your journey north.

    Stay: Havila Voyages

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 3 » Alesund, Geiranger & Molde

Having sailed through the night, you’ll wake to views of the Havila headquarters in Torvik before arriving in Alesund, a town known for its pretty coastal setting and abundance of Art Nouveau architecture. Take the chance to explore on a walking tour, head into the hills for a scenic hike or take to the water on a kayaking excursion before sailing on to Geiranger in the heart of Norway’s emblematic western fjords. Soak up the beauty of it all on everything from mountain farm strolls to e-biking and cultural walks, before continuing on to Molde.

    Stay: Havila Voyages

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 4 » Trondheim

This morning, you’ll drop anchor in Trondheim where a choice of excursions will introduce you to its myriad ancient landmarks, including its impressive Nidaros Cathedral. Choose between walking tours, tram rides and cycling trips before rejoining to ship to sail north into the neighbouring fjords and on through a spectacular archipelago en route to Rorvik.

  • Day 5 » Lofoten Islands

You’ll be treated to some of Norway’s most spectacular scenery today as you cross the Arctic Circle ¬– a moment marked by a small ceremony – to arrive among the dramatic landscapes surrounding Ornes, Bodo and the magnificent Lofoten Islands. Today’s excursions will see you explore the region on RIB boats in search of sea eagles, visit a local brewery and feast with a Viking chieftain.

  • Day 6 » Tromso

As you move deeper into the Norwegian Arctic, you’ll sail past a landscape of narrow fjords and wild mountains, finally arriving in the city of Tromso. While it’s known as Norway’s Northern Lights capital, in summer its surrounding scenery is kept illuminated by the endless glow of the Midnight Sun. Take advantage of the endless daylight to experience everything from sea kayaking to Sami cultural visits, even meeting huge herds of reindeer. Or, you might choose to simply enjoy the many delights of the town itself, where a seemingly endless choice of bars and restaurants look out across a pretty harbour and fjord.

  • Day 7 » Honningsvag & North Cape

Today is a real trip highlight as you reach the most northerly point on mainland Europe – North Cape. Desolate and ever-so dramatic, here the frigid waters of the Barent Sea crash onto towering, 300-metre-tall cliffs host to puffins, gannets, and cormorants. Stand and gaze out to the horizon, knowing the just the sea and the remote Svalbard archipelago separates you from the North Pole. As the day progresses, you’ll have the chance to choose from a host of activities, including all-terrain vehicle adventures, birdwatching tours and cultural Sami visits. If you’re sailing in winter, swap in the likes of snowmobiling, snowshoeing and ice fishing in nearby Honningsvag.

  • Day 8 » Kirkenes

Your cruise ends today in the town of Kirkenes. Known for its winter snow hotel, in the warmer months you’ll have the chance to go king crab fishing in a RIB boat or simply admire and explore the splendid Arctic scenery. On arrival, check into your hotel for an overnight stay.
