Day 1 » UK/Bergen
Fly to Bergen, considered to be the gateway to the fjords, and check into Clarion Havnekontoret – situated just by the wharf in one of the most historic buildings in the city. It serves as the perfect base to explore Bergen – one of the main Hanseatic cities in Europe in the mid-20th century. Enjoy your afternoon by exploring the city on foot; we recommend you visit the city's excellent museums and the historic Bryggen district – designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. On your return to the hotel, a light supper is included in your stay.
We are also including a return trip on Floyen, the funicular that affords beautiful views over the city and its surrounding mountains.

Days 2-4 » Balestrand
You'll depart Bergen today, setting out to explore Norway's sensational waterways. Boarding an express boat, you'll begin with Norway's longest fjord, Sognefjord, arriving into Balestrand around midday, giving you ample time to check into your hotel. It's a grand, 19th-century dame positioned right on the waterfront. Over the next two days, you'll be free to explore the beautiful countryside around Balestrand – a region that has attracted tourists as early as the 1800s, when artists would come to sketch and paint the mesmerising landscapes. Today, your camera will serve just as well. There are a number of activities available to you during your stay, from RIB boat safaris to more leisurely fjord excursions, cycling and hiking. However you decide to explore the region, you won't be disappointed.

Day 5 » Flåm & Bergen
On leaving Balestrand in the morning, you will head by express boat to the idyllic village of Flåm. Situated in Aurlandsfjord, an arm of Sognefjord, the area is renowned for the gorgeous scenic railway – one of the steepest standard gauge railways in the world – and one of the most beautiful too. You'll journey through 20 tunnels (18 of which were built by hand), past Kjosfossen waterfall and towards Myrdal, where you'll board another train to Bergen. The Myrdal–Bergen route will whisk you through wild, mountainous terrains and provide jaw-dropping views of the dramatic Hardangervidda plateau. On arrival back in Bergen, head for your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. As before, light supper is included in your stay.
