It all begins by traveling to one of the most remote corners of Norway, deep in the Arctic Circle. Stay just metres away from the famous Alta River at Arctic Wilderness Lodge, with uninterrupted views of the famous river. Your stay will be complimented by a series of exciting autumnal excursions, from king crab fishing to Northern Lights hunts, giving you the perfect balance between tranquillity and exploration in this magnificent season.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Fly to Alta

Fly to Alta before transferring to the stunning Arctic Wilderness Lodge, located on the banks of the renowned Alta River. Settle into your premium accommodation, complete with panoramic windows extending from floor to ceiling, maximising views of the adjacent river and the Arctic wilderness beyond, as well as inviting the Northern lights to enter in the evenings.

Spend the remaining afternoon at leisure in your new surroundings before a lavish 8-Course Dinner experience at the Maku Restaurant. In keeping with the autumnal season, the resident chefs welcome you to the Arctic, taking you on a culinary journey and offer you their interpretation of Arctic Norway and its powerful and contrasting nature through their range of flavoursome dishes, all made from local produce. Later this evening, pamper yourself with an Arctic sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi experience, taking the time to enjoy the tranquillity of the surrounding nature.

  • Day 2 » King crab safari & Northern Lights

Rise early for a filling breakfast, before setting off for a must-do arctic wilderness experience – king crab fishing. Dressed in a warm thermal suit and accompanied by your knowledgable guide, you'll depart by boat to the Alta fjord before preparing to fish for what some consider a prized delicacy. Learn about local fishing secrets and old stories revolving around the king crab and the history of the area. Return to the lodge in the early afternoon before enjoying a lunch at the Lavvo Restaurant, prepared using your catch of the day, an experience not to be missed.

Spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure before a delicious 3-course dinner back at the Maku Restaurant. Tonight, as the skies darken, meet your guide for a chance to hunt for the mysterious Northern Lights. Ideally located away from light pollution in the high Arctic, Sorrisniva is perfectly positioned to maximise your chance of spotting the elusive light show. Your professional guide will advise you how to take the best photographs before you depart. You'll travel around the local area in search of the location with the greatest chance of viewing the mesmerising phenomenon, perhaps following the coastline or even up on to the Finnmark Plateau.

After lunch at the Lavvu restaurant, join a guided trip to the Siida museum, learning about Sami history and its complex culture and traditions. Afterwards you'll get to meet and greet a local Sami herder, helping them feed their reindeer and learning about their unique way of life. Enjoy a coffee and local Siida cake in a traditional Lavvu by a bonfire, before returning to the lodge. This evening's dinner is not included, but we recommend dining at the Maku restaurant with a range of menus available.

Relax around the campfire with hot drinks and a bite to eat before returning to the lodge.
