Setting the scene, you’ll be based at one of Finnish Lapland’s finest winter resorts, located in the wilderness just outside Rovaniemi on the edge of the Arctic Circle. It’s the ideal spot for a winter break, brought to life with a range of included excursions, from reindeer sleigh rides through magical forests to such classic Nordic activities as husky sledding and snowmobiling. You’ll also be treated to full-board dining throughout for the ultimate taste of winter in Lapland.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Fly to Lapland

Fly out from London Heathrow, via Helsinki, to Rovaniemi, where you’ll be met by your local host. It’s then just a 15-minute transfer to Apukka Resort and your choice of Arctic accommodation – there’s everything from glass-roofed Aurora Cabins to Kammi Suites, which take their design inspiration from the ancient takes of Northland. Either way, you’re in for a memorable stay. Collect your warm clothes, provided for the duration of your stay before enjoying the first of your included meals, a buffet dinner at Restaurant Aitta. Afterwards, take a walk outside for the chance to spot the Northern Lights.

Perhaps test out your snowshoeing skills, go cross-country skiing or try your hand at ice sculpting. For the kids, there are toboggans and mini snowmobiles before a giant snowball fight rounds off the excitement.

Then, after a hearty lunch, it’s time for a real trip highlight as you head deep into the forest and your waiting reindeer who’re on hand to lead you to Santa’s secret hideaway. As you make your way along the hidden path, resident elves will be there to serve hot drinks and cookies, and entertain you as you wait for your private meeting. You never know, Santa might just have a special surprise waiting for you!

You’ll kick think off with a husky adventure, meeting Apukka’s resident pack and learning about their importance to life in the frozen north. It’s then time to harness your team and head out into the forest, even taking the chance to be the musher yourself. It really is an unforgettable experience.

In the afternoon, having enjoyed lunch at the resort, you’ll swap the yap of huskies for the road of a snowmobile, driving along a network of frozen trails which take past everything from pine tree forests to frozen marshlands. You’ll even have time to stop at the halfway point for a hot drink and to take in the sheer beauty of the landscape. Children are pulled behind the guide in a sled.
