A new addition to Finland’s famed glass igloo scene, the AuroraHut Glass Igloos offer delightful accommodation and Northern Lights viewing on the shores of a frozen lake in the heart of Finnish Lapland. This itinerary pairs a night in one of these igloos with a stay at the cosy, family-owned Jeris Lakeside Resort, and includes a programme of included seasonal activities designed to make this a holiday to remember. Indeed, between Northern Lights snowmobiling, reindeer safaris and husky safaris, you’ll experience the very best of winter in Finnish Lapland.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Depart for Kittila

Board your flight, via Helsinki, to Kittlia in the heart of Finnish Lapland. On arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to Jeris Lakeside Resort, idyllically located on the frozen shores of Lake Jerisjärvi, surrounded by peaceful forests and snow-shrouded fells. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, perhaps heading to Arctic Sauna World on the lake's edge. Choose from five different saunas, or channel your inner Wim Hoff (or Gino D'Acampo) with a dip in the icy waters. In the evening, head to the restaurant for the first of your included meals – a buffet dinner inspired by the region’s rich bounty of seasonal ingredients. Then, step outside and into the dark to see if you catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights overhead.

    Stay: Jeris Lakeside Resort

  • Day 2 » Meet the reindeer & Northern Lights by snowmobile

Your adventure begins in earnest today as you head to a nearby reindeer farm to meet the herd, visiting a 100-year-old Lappish farmhouse and reindeer museum and embarking on a reindeer-led sleigh ride along snowy forest trails. A short walk then sees you to the nearby Winter Village complete with ice restaurant, bar, and impressive wall carvings. You’ll pause here for lunch before enjoying a Secrets of the Northern Lights workshop, discovering the science behind this natural wonder.

Your day ends with even more snowy fun as, after dinner at the hotel restaurant, you’ll join your guide for a night-time snowmobiling tour, driving two per snowmobile deep into the wilderness to, with luck, see the aurora in full flow.

    Stay: Jeris Lakeside Resort

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 3 » Husky safari & AuroraHut Glass Igloo

Today you’ll be treated to a real Lapland highlight, a husky safari. Heading out to the nearby husky farm, you’ll meet your eager team of dogs before hooking up your sled to ride in teams of two out across the frozen wilds before returning to the hotel for lunch. It really is the ultimate way to explore Lapland.

But your day doesn’t end there, as next you’ll venture out on an evening snowshoe hike through the surrounding forests, stepping silently through deep drifts to marvel at the moon and stars and search for the Northern Lights.

Finally, wrap your stay up with a night in an AuroraHut Glass Igloo – with private views of the Northern Lights, weather depending – or at the nearby Arctic Firefox Lodge complete with private sauna. Whichever you choose, you’re sure to enjoy a fabulous end to your holiday.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 4 » Depart for UK

Relax with a sauna before breakfast, then transfer to the airport in time for your flight home via Helsinki.
