Touch down in Montréal and transfer straight to your hotel. This exciting and historic city was first established in the early 17th century as a fur trading post, and has since grown to a population of almost two million people. Spend the rest of the day orientating yourself, perhaps visiting some of the churches that give Montréal the nickname ‘city of a hundred steeples’.

Day 2 » Montréal
Today you have another full day to explore Montréal and its many cultural delights, weather permitting – or not. Unlike Britain, Canada is totally capable of handling a bit of snow, and Montréal’s municipal planners have provided a superb shelter for windswept pedestrians in the form of the Underground City, or RÉSO, a sprawling network of malls, museums and Metro stations that forms the largest subterranean complex in the world.

Days 3-5 » Hotel Sacacomie
This morning you'll make the 100-mile journey from Montréal to Hotel Sacacomie on a scheduled transfer. Hotel Sacacomie is set in the heart of a forest on the borders of the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve, where you'll spend the next three nights. The Hôtel Sacacomie is a lovely lakeside log lodge surrounded by forest-clad hills and, in winter, a thick blanket of snow. In the daytime you’ll have ample opportunity to get out and enjoy the setting, with tobogganing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, dogsledding and more available, while the hotel’s spa provides a warming and relaxing retreat should you need it. At night, things get increasingly cosy as you settle down for a hearty meal in front of a blazing fire.
Cuisine at the hotel combines classic French favourites with game, fish and berries sourced from the local area.
