Located right on the shores of Lake Vitträsket, deep in the wilderness of Swedish Lapland, Sörbyn is perhaps the ultimate rustic retreat. Guests step out from spacious cabins straight into polar adventures, including skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and dogsledding, and return at the end of the day to a roaring open fire, soothing wood-fired sauna sessions and freshly caught and foraged forest cuisine to finish off the fun.
Eat
Restaurant Kallkällan is rightly proud of its reputation for serving fabulous locally sourced food, including the likes of wild mushrooms, reindeer, cloudberries, local char and other delicious seafood. These are the cornerstones of Lappish cuisine, and the chef here combines them with other local ingredients to delicious effect. It’s possible to join him for foraging trips, or join him in the kitchen to see how he puts together delights such as local lamb with chanterelles and ceps
Sleep
Sörbyn offers a choice between the charming lake view cabins, or the modern comforts of a hotel room. The cabins are dotted amongst the trees, offering solitude and tranquillity, each with prime views of the frozen lake. Rooms in the hotel itself are spacious, bright and stylishly simple, atmospheric in their own modern way.
Do
A true year-round resort, the activities here change with the seasons, and all make the most of the spectacular surroundings. In summer, head out into the archipelago to try a spot of angling for Artic char, before dashing off on a mountain bike ride or plunging down rapids on a rafting trip. Then, in winter, join an expert guide for a spot of ice fishing, cooking your catch on a roaring fire, or hop on the back of a snowmobile or husky sled to weave your way through the trees in search of delightful woodland critters, from mink to moose. Repeat the same trick at night time to catch the delights of the Northern Lights.
